Bella Vista Water District Wintu Pumping Plant
Bella Vista Water District Wintu Pumping Plant
Background:
This 85 cfs (54.9 MGD, 8,665 m3/h) municipal water supply was required to install 1.75-mm slot size wedge wire screens with a 0.33 feet per second (10 cm/s) or less approach velocity to meet state and federal fish screen criteria for protected anadromous salmonids on the Sacramento River. ISI completed this project as a design-build project where we removed the facility’s four existing traveling water screens that did not meet fish screen criteria and replaced them with four retrievable T screens mounted on the face of the intake. This project was delivered as a turnkey, design-build project in 2012.
Benefit of ISI System
ISI's retrievable brush-cleaned cylindrical screen system was selected as the project's preferred alternative. This "on-river" design was adapted to the existing structure to increase the screened surface area necessary to meet the 0.33 feet per second (10 cm/s) or less approach velocity requirement at the 1.75-mm slot opening size. The retrievable brush-cleaning system provides an efficient means to perform inspections and maintenance. The system was designed to install on the face of the intake with minimal modifications to the existing structure. Manually actuated gates were incorporated into the track system to allow for the closing off of an intake when a screen is to be raised to the deck level.
