Mina Justa Desalination Intake
Mina Justa Desalination Intake
Background:
Mina Justa is an open field copper mine located in the Inca province of Peru. Water requirements for the project are met by a seawater intake located 574 feet (175 m) offshore at a depth of approximately 33 feet (10 m). The seawater pumped from the intake is desalinated before being used in the mine’s process plant and for dust suppression. The intake is equipped with two of ISI’s turbine-drive, mechanical brush-cleaned wedge wire screens.
Benefit of ISI System
ISI’s screens were custom designed and fabricated for a minimum service life of seven years without the need for servicing beyond sacrificial anode replacement. Design features include 2507 super duplex stainless steel construction to minimize corrosion, use of a silicon epoxy coating to limit biofouling, and a flange mounted vertical screen orientation to minimize use of materials and space. The screens provide fish and debris protection at this remote offshore intake without the need to run power to the screens.
